UNITED WAY MIAMI PRESIDENT & CEO SYMERIA HUDSON RELEASES FIRST 100 DAYS REPORT FOLLOWING LISTENING AND LEARNING TOUR

With a People-Centered Strategic Approach, Hudson Identifies Four Pillars to Chart the Next Course for the Leading Nonprofit Organization

MIAMI, FL (Jan. 06, 2023) – Symeria Hudson, United Way Miami’s President and CEO, has released a report detailing her observations and learnings following her first 100 days in the leadership post. Hudson joined United Way Miami in August 2022 as the first black female to lead the organization.

During her first 100 days, Hudson embarked on a listening and learning tour to gain input and gather critical insights to enhance United Way’s role as a champion in the Miami giving community. Throughout this process, Hudson met with 250+ staff members, dozens of agency partners, Board members and donors, volunteers, beneficiaries, and United Way leaders from across the country. She also conducted several listening sessions with United Way Miami staff teams, attended numerous community fundraising campaign kick-offs, speaking engagements and community events.

“Thanks to the feedback I gathered in these first 100 days, I have clear insight into our strategic approach for the future,” said Hudson. “I want to do everything I can to support the people of this community and build a stronger and more dynamic United Way Miami. It was important that this process be thoughtful, transparent, and intentional.”

The 100-day report, designed to serve as an organizational roadmap to help define United Way Miami over the next few years, focuses on four main pillars: strengthening its core – people and culture; reestablishing United Way Miami’s strong position in the community and beyond; adapting to the new economy by bringing technology and education to the forefront; and enhancing relationships with Miami’s giving community.

“Miami has evolved in so many ways, including its evolution as a finance and technology hub. Yet so many of our residents are faced with economic instability, unaffordable housing, a growing digital divide, and other acute challenges that have them in or on the edge of poverty,” added Hudson. “In order to lead and lift the community, we must build initiatives to help residents prosper in the new economy, develop measurable real-time data for investors, build on old relationships and establish new connections, and increase our presence in the community.”

For nearly 100 years, United Way Miami has worked with its network of donors, volunteers and partners to generate and expand resources and advocate for policies that improve the quality of life for all. The organization supports more than 60 organizations and 100 programs throughout Miami-Dade County and leverages its unique role in the community to ensure everyone in Miami-Dade has access to quality education and the opportunity to live healthy and financially secure lives – the building blocks of a thriving community.

“United Way Miami has established a legacy of leadership and service and I look forward to building on this foundation and leading the organization to even greater heights,” added Hudson. “The feedback I received during this listening and learning tour has been invaluable and I am grateful to all who took the time to share their stories, expertise, experiences, passions and aspirations with me, especially as we head into the organization’s centennial.”
