  THE HELPING HAND  Stay safe before, during and after a storm Every year our community faces the uncertainty of hurricane season from June 1 through November 30. Planning and preparing can make a big difference during these unprecedented times, especially in the wake of a hurricane.  Meet Iris For many older adults in our community, getting a new pair of sneakers, seeing a long-lost relative again or transitioning to a smaller bed is just a wish. For Iris, it was a wish that came true through Golden Wishes, a special initiative for older adults 60+ who are unable to pursue a wish on their own. Accepting applications: Quality early care and education  Have you been counted? Now more than ever, members of our community need to be counted. The 2020 Census determines the level of funding over the next decade for programs that support education, housing, transportation, emergency services, food assistance and more. The deadline has been extended to October 31. Our County self-response rate is only at 55.3%. We encourage you to submit your response online and urge others to do the same.  Local leaders support United Way When we are down, we get up and continue to fight. Despite the effects of this global pandemic, United Way of Miami-Dade and our city’s own continue to help our community’s most vulnerable families. Miami needs you. Will you join us?
