Our community unites to help Surfside and Haiti Over the course of the summer months, our community leaped into action donating over $1.1M and volunteering to help local Surfside residents after the tragic building collapse as well as our Haitian neighbors following the destructive earthquake in their country. COVID-19 Impact Survey Report With more than half of Miami-Dade households (54%) or approximately 485,000 families already struggling to get by, the impact of the COVID-19 crisis had devastating results. In a March 2021 survey, 3,120 of these households (and 1,735 households who earn above the ALICE Threshold) share what life has been like for them during this time of profound uncertainty.
Did you know? 83% of our COVID-19 Impact Survey respondents who live below the ALICE threshold had issues related to child care and education and were concerned about paying housing expenses.
Meet United Way Miami’s 2021-2022 annual campaign co-chairs and cabinet Co-chairing our 2021-2022 annual campaign are Alex Adams and Maria Mas Blet, dedicated volunteers and longstanding supporters. As we commemorate 97 years of empowering the most vulnerable in our community, we are rolling out the annual campaign both in-person and virtually. Every year, the campaign invites over 250 workplaces and their employees, and thousands of individual contributors to build a stronger Miami, together. A United Way Miami story Meet Shelly-Anne. She is a parent and registered nurse that found the help she needed in order to care for her family and patients. Leaders Day of Action brings together more than a hundred volunteers United Way Miami giving communities partnered with Health in the Hood over a span of two shifts to give back to our community. Volunteers and their families had the opportunity to revitalize a community space that will allow neighboring families to gather together and enjoy. Center for Excellence in Early Education is accepting applications Our award winning United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education Demonstration School, Educare of Miami-Dade is still accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year for children, aged three to four years. The school seeks to serve Miami-Dade County’s diverse population while providing access to high-quality early care and education.
