VOLUNTEERMIAMI CALLS ON VOLUNTEERS TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH ACTIVITIES, POWERED BY UNITED WAY MIAMI

VolunteerMiami Platform Serves as Miami-Dade’s Community Service Hub

MIAMI, FL (April 13, 2022) – In honor of National Volunteer Month, United Way Miami is calling on service driven members of the community to lend a helping hand in a variety of volunteer opportunities offered throughout the month of April, powered by VolunteerMiami  – Miami-Dade’s central community service hub offering volunteer opportunities to people who are passionate about making an impact. The month-long celebration will culminate with the second annual VolunteerMiami Day on April 23, where over 100 volunteers will come together to pack and distribute much needed supplies to over 700 families in Miami-Dade County.

VolunteerMiami is Miami-Dade’s central community service hub offering volunteer opportunities to people who are passionate about creating meaningful change in our community. With a network of over 7,800 volunteers and growing, the platform also recently became a tool for local organizations who want to recruit volunteers for their own community initiatives. So far, over 65 organizations have used VolunteerMiami as a way to recruit volunteers. The program also recruits and trains volunteer leaders and activates volunteers where they are needed during a community crisis. VolunteerMiami is a driving force in helping United Way Miami fulfill its mission of building a stronger Miami by bringing together people and resources.

“We are excited to be celebrating National Volunteer Month with a great lineup of community service opportunities – all through our VolunteerMiami platform,” says Joe Zubi, interim President and CEO of United Way Miami. “VolunteerMiami is an essential component of what makes up United Way Miami and we are proud to be able to share this network of service driven individuals with the community,” continued Zubi.

A vital force that contributes to United Way Miami’s mission, volunteerism strengthens a community in many ways. According to Volunteer Hub, those who volunteer regularly have a 27% better chance of gaining employment and 60% of hiring managers see volunteerism as a valuable asset when it comes to making recruitment decisions, according to Career Builder. Volunteerism is also good for physical and mental health. According to the Corporation for National & Community Service, community service work leads to lower mortality rates, greater physical abilities and improved mental health, particularly among Baby Boomer volunteers.

Below is a list of volunteer opportunities open for registration:

  • April 1 – 30 | April Showers Hygiene Kit Drive | Remote – Support the most vulnerable members of our community by donating personal hygiene products. Contributions will help United Way Miami partner agencies provide essential supplies to those in need.
  • April 21 | Community Cleanup | Crandon Park – In order to preserve the various habitats that exist in our community, volunteers are needed to clean, repair and improve the public spaces that have been neglected. Many non-profit organizations have benefited from sharing their volunteer needs and events on VolunteerMiami.

“At Health in the Hood, our mission is to provide equal food access for all,” says Asha Walker, Founder and CEO of Health in the Hood. “This mission relies heavily on the good-will of our volunteers to come out and donate their time and VolunteerMiami has been essential in expanding our reach and impacting the lives of hundreds of Miami residents.”
