In the spirit of the holiday season, and as we reflect on all that we’re grateful for, I hope you’ll take a moment to think about the impact you’ve had on our community this past year. Your generous gifts of time, treasure and talent are what fuel our work, bringing hope and promise to tens of thousands – people who you will never meet but whose lives are forever changed thanks to your caring. There is no greater reward than doing something great for someone else and no better time to celebrate good deeds than the holidays.
I am immensely proud of what, collectively we’ve achieved these past 12 months and even more excited about what’s in store for next year – our 95th in service to this community.
With your support, we continue to build a stronger Miami by working with over 100 programs that support our mission, so that every person in Miami-Dade can have a fighting chance.
I trust you will enjoy reading about just one of those programs – a youth program that helps teens get back on track after a brush with the law, as well as how you, too, can be a part of the process that helps us decide which programs we should invest in next. AMIkids, a long-held United Way partner, is dedicated to help our community’s young people discover the potential within them. Meet Monique and her family
Monique is a mother of two children involved in the Early Head Start program. Thanks to United Way of Miami-Dade and the generosity of our community, she was able to have a Thanksgiving feast, celebrating with her mother, four siblings and 10 grandkids.
“We were very blessed to be able to receive something like this for Thanksgiving. United Way has been the best! My son was at Ethel Beckford when the program started and is now starting kindergarten. My daughter, Alani, is two years old and is at Ethel Beckford now. I’m very grateful for the program and staff. I don’t receive any government assistance and I work full-time, so this has been a blessing.”

“As a LINC member, I’ve had the opportunity to not only get my hands dirty in fun volunteer events, but also take part in heart-warming activities, like granting an ‘abuelita’ her golden wish of learning how to use an iPad to be able to communicate with her family in Cuba.
“I wish more individuals knew the wonderful feelings of empowerment, warmth and humbleness that take over when you walk into a United Way event. Being surrounded by individuals that have the same drive and motivation to make a change is one of the most beautiful and fulfilling experiences I’ve had in my life. I’m proud, grateful and humbled to be a LINC member and part of United Way.”
