Volunteers committed to #GiveBackandConnect through various activities all month long
In honor of National Volunteer Month, United Way Miami called on service driven members of the community to lend a helping hand in a variety of volunteer opportunities offered throughout the month of April, powered by VolunteerMiami – Miami-Dade’s central community service hub offering volunteer opportunities to people who are passionate about making an impact.
Various volunteer activations took place throughout the month, such as:
- April Showers Hygiene Kit Drive
- Community Cleanup at Crandon Park
- Miami Beach Botanical Garden Beautification
- Tackling Food Insecurity with Feeding South Florida
- Women United Food Drive
- Pals and Paws Adventures with Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption & Protection Center
The month-long celebration also included the second annual VolunteerMiami Day on April 23, where over 75 volunteers came together to pack and distribute much needed supplies to over 700 families in Miami-Dade County.
Throughout the day, volunteers packed more than 700 early literacy, hygiene, hurricane preparedness and meal kits – all critical resources for everyday life. The kits were distributed with the help of other non-profit organizations such as YWCA, Pain to Purpose, United Home Care – who ensured vulnerable families in our community received them. VolunteerMiami Day was sponsored by Goya Spices, NBC Telemundo and JP Morgan.
“We are so grateful for all the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedule to join us on VolunteerMiami Day, as well as those who helped throughout National Volunteer Month,” said TK Owens, Director of Engagement & Special Events at United Way Miami. “We could not build a stronger Miami without this commitment from our community.”
Volunteerism is an essential component that contributes to United Way Miami’s mission to help Miami-Dade county residents in need to thrive in the areas of health, financial stability and education.
