About UpSkill Miami

United Way Miami is proud to launch UpSkill Miami, a transformative new fund that invests in workforce development initiatives.

UpSkill Miami fosters strategic collaborations, bringing together underserved populations, training providers and employers in Miami-Dade County. The fund serves to upskill and reskill the local workforce, offering them training, support and employment opportunities in high-demand industries.

By creating a pathway to jobs that provide economic mobility and avenues for career growth, we can profoundly transform the lives of many in our local community.

Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP)

Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP) and United Way Miami are partnering to elevate lives and transform educational opportunities in our community. TAP participants take a one-semester course, followed by a six-week summer training with a $5000 stipend, earn an initial certificate to teach and begin instructing in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

This partnership aims to support TAP’s efforts in addressing the nationwide teacher shortage by recruiting, preparing, and mentoring aspiring educators through its comprehensive, streamlined program, which equips college students and career changers with the skills and knowledge to excel in the classroom.

TAP is an initiative of Achieve Miami, supported by Teacher for America Miami-Dade, and is offered by the University of Miami, Florida International University and Miami-Dade College.

Baptist Health began its Allied Health Scholars program in 2022 to offer financial support to students enrolled in critically needed disciplines at accredited academic institutions. Florida Power & Light (FPL) Program

Florida Power & Light (FPL) and the System Council U-4 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) have developed a centralized Basic Training Pilot. FPL and United Way Miami are partnering to offer this 6-month Pre-Apprenticeship Program for individuals looking to unlock a career as an Apprentice Line Specialist. This program consists of six months of formal training, including two weeks of on-the-job training experience. This is a great opportunity to become a skilled lineworker with the nation’s leading electric utility company.
