ORGANIZED LABOR AND UNITED WAY

Together, building a stronger community

Over the years, we’ve seen how a strong partnership between labor and management has a positive and powerful impact on the community.

OUR MISSION

To build a stronger Miami-Dade County by uniting union members to make personal investments of time and resources in our community through United Way.

For decades, the American Federation of Labor and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and United Way Miami have enjoyed a cooperative relationship based on three key principles:

  • Focusing on the training and personal development of individuals
  • Providing services to workers and their families
  • Encouraging positive community change through personal involvement

Over the years, we’ve seen how a strong partnership between labor and management has a positive and powerful impact on the community as a whole and within the workplace as well. At United Way, labor representatives serve in many key leadership roles – as volunteers on key standing committees, and as trustees and champions for our work in education, financial stability and health.
