WHAT IS THE OLDER ADULT ADVOCACY TASKFORCE?

A collaboration of more than 20 experts and thought leaders working in Miami-Dade County’s aging sector that have joined forces to:

  • Explore and promote policy solutions for aging and older adult issues in Miami-Dade County
  • Raise awareness about the growing level of unmet needs among older adults (age 60 and older)
  • Serve as a resource for elected and community leaders

UNITED WAY LEADERSHIP

As a community convener, United Way Miami has facilitated the Older Adult Advocacy Taskforce since 2016, following the success of the Stand Up for Older Adults Forum in 2015.

The Taskforce is a complement to United Way’s broader portfolio of work focused on older adults in our community. The broader portfolio includes:

Funding for older adult services delivered by a network of community partners. Services include hot meals at senior centers as well as home-delivered meals; in-home support for bathing, dressing, and other daily activities; day care, in-home respite, and support for family caregivers; fitness and socialization, and more.

Collaborative leadership for the Miami-Dade Age-Friendly Initiative, a collective impact effort focused on making Miami-Dade more age friendly.

Implementation of the annual Golden Wishes program that honors and celebrates older adults by granting individual wishes for learning, new experiences, connecting with friends and family, and overcoming barriers.
