Volunteers packed 1,000 backpacks with school supplies for Miami-Dade County students in need
In preparation for the 2022-23 school year, nearly 100 United Way Miami volunteers participated in our annual back-to-school drive that will benefit over 1,000 students in need throughout Miami-Dade County. Powered by VolunteerMiami, the event brought together volunteers to fill backpacks with essential school supplies such as folders, notebooks, rulers, crayons, markers, pencil pouches, highlighters, colored pencils, glue, healthy snacks, etc.
The backpacks were distributed to local non-profit organizations around the county that service local children such as Li’l Abner Foundation, Centro Campesino, Coconut Grove Cares, Overtown Youth Center, Girl Power, etc. who ensured vulnerable families in our community received them.
“We are so grateful to all the sponsors and volunteers who helped make our annual back-to-school drive a huge success,” said TK Owens, Director of Engagement & Special Events at United Way Miami. “This commitment from our community is what helps fuel our mission of building a stronger Miami.”
Volunteerism is an essential component that contributes to United Way Miami’s mission to help Miami-Dade County residents in need to thrive in the areas of health, financial stability and education.
Our back-to-school drive was presented by International Finance Bank. Additional sponsors included Ascendo, BMI, Shutts & Bowen, Cohn Reznick, Paramount, One Sotheby’s, Coastal Construction and JLL.
