National report reveals that federal poverty data undercounts how many children are growing up amid insecurity - nearly 63 percent of Miami-Dade County's children lived in households that couldn't afford the basics, while traditional measures of poverty found that only 19.6 percent were living in poverty at that time.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ students, teachers and staff raised nearly $1.2M during their annual United Way campaign. For more than 40 years, M-DCPS and United Way Miami have worked together to help children and families thrive, and build a #StrongerMiami, together.
Honoring Darlene & Jorge M. Pérez with Building Dedication Ceremony
United Way Miami hosted a dedication ceremony to honor Darlene and Jorge M. Pérez and The Pérez Family Foundation for their continued support of the organization and commitment to helping vulnerable families in Miami-Dade County. A portion of our Annex building was named after them in their honor.
Hospitality Volunteers
Over 30 hospitality students from Florida International University (FIU) along with community volunteers came together to participate in this year’s VeritageMiami Interactive Dinner at the InterContinental Hotel on May 20th. The student volunteers assisted with meal prep for this year’s all-star lineup of culinary chefs, offered support for the guest cooking stations, and helped with set-up and breakdown of the event. Thank you to FIU’s Hospitality Management Program and all of our community volunteers for supporting such an amazing event and for giving back to United Way Miami.
