Building a Stronger Miami Through Volunteerism: A Recap of National Volunteer Month

In honor of National Volunteer Month, United Way Miami hosted a series of volunteer events that brought together people from all walks of life to make a positive impact. From planting gardens to packing food, our volunteers have been busy tackling some of our community’s most critical challenges. Here’s a recap of everything we’ve accomplished together.

We kicked off the month with Leaders’ Day of Action, where Giving Community volunteers dedicated their time to three projects focusing on United Way’s work in education, financial stability and health. Thanks to our presenting sponsor Amazon and friend sponsor Bast Amron LLP, we built a vegetable garden with Health in the Hood, helped the United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education provide a fun picnic for families and students celebrating the Week of the Young Child (WOYC) and assisted the Salvation Army in packing food for those in need of food assistance in our community.

Next, we celebrated VolunteerMiami Day and Earth Day with Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces. Over 100 volunteers helped improve the health of the rare Miami-Dade County tropical hardwood hammock forest at Kendall Indian Hammocks Park by removing invasive species and planting native plants. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, we protected and helped preserve the South Florida habitat for the community to enjoy for years to come.

But the volunteer efforts didn’t stop there. Throughout the month, we shared numerous rewarding opportunities to give back locally through VolunteerMiami.org – United Way’s central community service hub. Opportunities included meal packing for those experiencing food insecurity, beach clean-ups, volunteering at community events and more.

We’re grateful to all our volunteers and community partners for coming together to build a #StrongerMiami throughout National Volunteer Month.
