Celebrate #100YearsUnited
with Us!

In 1924, less than 30 years after the city’s incorporation, a group of Miamians founded what was then called Miami Community Chest and would become United Way Miami. During a three-day campaign, the founders rallied the community to raise $136,095 in support of 12 local agencies. Two years later, Community Chest mobilized 25,000 workers to respond in the wake of the Category 4 1926 Hurricane. A community leader in philanthropy, volunteerism and service was born.

So much has happened over the last 100 years, from global pandemics to natural disasters to inequity across different groups. Through it all, United Way Miami has always been there!

As we enter our second century of dedicated service, our next steps are critical to ensuring everyone in Miami-Dade County has access to quality education and the opportunity to live healthy and financially secure lives. Through research-based, innovative programs and initiatives, we are more passionately committed than ever to improving the quality of life for our most vulnerable community members – today and for the next century.

During our next century, we will continue to:

  • Convene and collaborate with organizations, community leaders and residents to plan for the future and uplift vulnerable households and underserved communities
  • Strategically fund and lead powerful initiatives that transform lives and increase our community impact
  • Build awareness of Miami-Dade’s needs, community potential and the resources available to meet them

Together, we continue to build a stronger and more equitable Miami for all – while remaining a force for the future generations that follow.
