United Way Youth Institute Spider Boost
What is United Way Youth Institute?
A yearlong student institute that focuses on empowering local youth in at-risk settings to have successful careers and become lifelong community advocates, global citizens and agents of change.
Who do we serve?
We believe that all youth deserve opportunities in life to be successful regardless of social economic status and/or background, therefore this program focuses on underrepresented, high-promise youth. These high school students are an asset to our community when it comes to leadership, economic contribution, advocacy and service.
What do students experience and learn here?
Knowledge of the three impact areas at United Way: education, financial stability and health
Career and college exploration, mentorship, meeting with community leaders and professionals in various fields
Project management by way of writing and implementing a grant for a local service learning project of their choice
Out-of-state travel for a service learning project, cross-cultural experiences and leadership development
United Arms of Tomorrow
United Arms of Tomorrow, a Youth Institute initiative, promotes education as a safe environment for youth in Miami-Dade County to discover and redirect their passions rather than resort to gun violence.
These 20 high school students took part in leadership and service learning trainings, explored colleges and careers, held discussions to tackle tough community issues like youth violence, learned why education, financial stability and health are crucial to a strong community and paid it forward by developing their own service learning project to help younger children deal with anger and conflict. But don’t take our word for it, watch the Youth Institute fellows in action.
All United Way Youth Institute Saturday sessions are located at:
