Wal-Mart Foundation teams up with United Way to help families access tax credits

United Way of Miami-Dade received a $15,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation to inform eligible consumers – those earning less than $42,000 a year – about the free tax services as well as their potential to qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) through which they can receive thousands of dollars in tax credits.

“Each year billions of dollars in tax refunds are not claimed by the people who most need those funds because they don’t know that they qualify and they don’t know how to go about filing their taxes,” Harve A.Mogul, president and CEO of United Way of Miami-Dade said. “Through this partnership with the Wal-Mart Foundation, United Way is working to help eligible consumers take advantage of tax credits, and provide them with opportunities to save money on tax preparation services.”
Through a number of tax preparation sites in Miami-Dade, IRS-certified counselors provide free help and assistance with tax preparation and filings as well as access to financial literacy programs that help them improve their standard of living.
