United Way of Miami-Dade welcomes 12 new members to Board of Directors

New members include Miami’s top business, community and education leaders committed to United Way’s mission

United Way of Miami-Dade announced new additions to the 2021-22 Board of Directors. Elected at the 97th Annual Meeting on June 22 by the incumbent board and trustees, these business and community leaders bring their knowledge and talent along with a steadfast commitment to forwarding United Way’s mission.

Robert E. Sanchez, chairman and CEO of Ryder System, Inc., serves as board and executive committee chair and spearheads the board comprised of business and community leaders who are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of United Way.

New board members include:

  • Peter L. Bermont, managing director, The Bermont Advisory Group
  • Sam Blatt, economic development policy manager, Amazon
  • Miguel G. Farra, South Florida tax managing partner, BDO
  • Jose Fuentes, senior government relations consultant, Becker
  • Jason Jenkins, senior vice president, communications and community, The Miami Dolphins
  • Karla Hernandez-Mats, president, United Teachers of Dade
  • Nancy A. Meyer, president, The Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald
  • Jerry Plush, vice chairman and chief executive officer, Amerant Bank
  • Duany Ruiz, senior vice president, commercial banking leader middle market banking, Wells Fargo
  • Rashad Thomas, strategic partnerships and community relations, Miami-Dade County, Port Miami

New board members elected to serve on the executive committee of the board include:

  • Alex P. Adams, South Florida president, Northern Trust
  • Lilia DiBello, associate professor of education, Barry University
