United Way of Miami-Dade launches initiative to build a powerful network of philanthropic small businesses

Small Business United unites the small and mighty for a stronger Miami

United Way of Miami-Dade launched United Way Small Business United with a panel discussion led by Michael Finney, president and CEO, Beacon Council. Panelists included three small business owners: Jonathan Alfonso, founding attorney, Title Answers; Jesika Diaz Munar, president and founding attorney, Munar Law; Ivan Mladenovic, president and CEO, Preemo. Small Business United provides small business owners with unique opportunities to convene, share knowledge and insights, grow their businesses, and participate in philanthropic efforts that meet the needs of the communities they serve.

Small businesses are the backbone of Miami-Dade’s economy, employing 53 percent of the county’s workforce. They have deep community roots and are in it for the long haul. Understanding they are small, yet mighty, United Way set out to engage them and offer them the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves.

“As a small business owner, I have learned that social impact resonates with my employees more than monetary compensation ever has,” said Alfonso, who served as a panelist at this month’s breakfast. “When you make an impact, not only will you feel good about it, but so will your employees.”

As members of Small Business United, employers can create a personalized corporate social responsibility plan that meets their wants and needs. Benefits include brand exposure on digital platforms, networking opportunities, volunteer and team building opportunities to boost employee engagement and leadership development events. Employees of the participating small businesses will receive access to a wide range of United Way services and funded programs, and seminars for professional growth.

On May 7, Small Business United is hosting Business Breakfast: How to Make Your Business Bankable.
