Making life-long dreams come true for special older adults in our community

Improving the lives of our older adults has long been a priority for United Way. Through Golden Wishes, we are able to fulfill long-held dreams by granting special wishes for local older adults.

Inspired by Dr. Rudy Moise, prominent doctor in our community and United Way of Miami-Dade board member, Golden Wishes celebrates positive aging with every wish. As a 20-year-old medical student, Dr. Moise recalls how amazing it felt to put a smile on a patient’s face as he granted a wish for his 80th birthday. Since then, he has made it his mission to continue making dreams a reality for older adults.

This May, over 20 wishes were granted to older adults at our 2nd Annual Golden Wishes Celebration Luncheon. Wishes came in all shapes and sizes including a long-awaited trip to Spain to reunite with family, visiting with relatives and children in Haiti, a four-day Caribbean cruise for a little “me-time”, a new tablet to FaceTime with family members in Cuba, and the gift that keeps on giving – writing a memoir for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to our sponsors, Dr. Rudy Moise, Galleria Farms, Joe Hovancak, and AARP, for helping us honor, celebrate and put a smile on the faces of older adults in our community.
