With an astonishing 59% of Miami-Dade households struggling to make ends meet, preparing a child for the upcoming school year with adequate school supplies can be a challenge. But it doesn’t have to be. Our United Way and the community are teaming up to make a difference by organizing Back-to-School Drives for needy students.
A school supplies drive is an impactful way to improve the overall education and financial stability of families in our community. You can help by donating items from our Amazon wish list to make sure students that are less fortunate have all they need for a successful school year.
For a more hands-on approach, join us on August 8 for our Volunteers on Tap event at American Social, where together we will assemble backpacks for our community’s children. All of the backpacks with donated supplies will go to Communities in Schools Miami, one of our United Way impact grantees that focuses on connecting children and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources.
If you can’t donate or participate, you can still host your own back-to-school drive with this handy Back-to-School Supplies Drive Toolkit.
Uniquely tailored to meet the needs of elementary, middle school and high school students, each kit provides step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions to launch a successful Back-to-School Supplies Drive at your organization.
Last year, United Way of Miami-Dade helped over 25,000 children and youth pave a way to a brighter future. In 2019, with your help, we can do even more.
By getting all children off to a strong start academically and socially, we’re investing in the future of Miami and giving tomorrow’s generation a fighting chance today.
