For February’s Small Business Spotlight, we caught up with Munar Law.
1. Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?
Munar Law is a 100% women, minority and LGBT-owned transactional law firm, focused on real estate, corporate law and estate planning. We serve all of Florida with headquarters in Doral and a satellite office in Hollywood. Our mission is to provide legal guidance to our clients in order to educate and empower them to achieve their personal and business goals. Our recipe for success is simple: we take the time to listen to our clients and treat everyone who comes through our doors like family.
2. Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way?
United Way strives to make our community a better place to live for everyone. That philosophy aligns perfectly with our mission. Our firm is dedicated to educating and empowering our clients, so they can achieve their goals and hopefully make a positive impact on their community. We believe in the importance of community, and that by working together we can make a difference in the lives of others.
3. How did your business get started?
My career started in 2002 as a real estate paralegal right out of high school, which led to me become a licensed title agent. I have been fortunate to come across some wonderful employers and mentors. Being around other lawyers inspired me to become a lawyer and I worked full-time throughout undergrad and law school to become one. I ended up at a very nice and comfortable job as in-house counsel for a large corporate employer where I had worked all throughout law school as a paralegal, but it wasn’t my calling. After five and a half years at the same employer, I took a leap of faith and joined a boutique real estate firm knowing I would never achieve my goals if I stayed at my corporate job. Two years later I formed Munar Law and it’s been the best decision I ever made for myself, my family and, most importantly, the clients I am now able to serve according to my philosophies.
4. What is a lesson learned?
The hardest part of being a small business owner is knowing when to let go of the reigns and delegate certain tasks to others. Whether the assistance comes from an employee or a third-party, don’t be afraid to seek help. Look for answers in the experiences of other professionals, especially persons that have already walked in your shoes. You’d be surprised how kind and generous people are with their time and with the knowledge they’ve acquired running their own businesses. I try to pay that forward every single day by making myself as available as possible to other who are starting on their own journey.
