Make a difference during National Volunteer Week

Join us from April 6 – 13 as we celebrate National Volunteer Week. You, along with hundreds of volunteers will work together to create meaningful change in our community through a variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities.

 

SATURDAY, APRIL  6
National Volunteer Week Kick-off

Join United Way of Miami-Dade and ARC of South Florida in Florida City as we kick off a week of volunteerism. Volunteers will help to paint their three buildings, organize their seven classrooms and plant a garden.

Senior Day of Excellence with Mind&Melody

Join United Way and Mind&Melody, Inspire305’s 2018 Trailblazer grant winner, to transform the lives of active older adults and older adults experiencing dementia. Volunteers will not only assist with our hour-long music session, but also engage with older adults in other socialization activities and foster intergenerational relationships.

How can your love for children and a few pieces of cardboard inspire a young mind?
Join us at United Way of Miami-Dade’s Imagination Day — an amazing opportunity to spark a child’s creativity through the use of a simple cardboard box and other recycled materials. Spend time with children while creating something new.

Hands In for Paws and Purrs

Join United Way of Miami-Dade and Miami-Dade County Animal Services to learn about pet care, make new friends that share a passion for animals, and have tons of fun, all while making a positive impact on the lives of animals. Volunteers will receive training and orientation upon arrival and spend the morning assisting with shelter needs.

Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

A room to read

Join United Way of Miami-Dade and Redlands Christian Migrant Association (RCMA) to create a lending library for children and families to use. Volunteers will have the opportunity to build furniture, decorate a room and read to children at the school. RCMA, a United Way funded agency, is an early child development center in Homestead Florida, dedicated to providing child care and early education to the children of immigrant families. The children served range from ages of 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Painting with a purpose

Join United Way of Miami-Dade and the Jewish Volunteer Center as we create a multipurpose room at Alper JCC Early Childhood Center, Volunteers will paint the room, create a sensory wall, build furniture and organize the room. The Alper JCC Early Childhood Program serves infants from 8 weeks old to children in Pre-K.

Intergenerational Sensory Garden

Join United Way and Easterseals in creating a sensory friendly garden that will be used by children and older adults. Volunteers will help create different areas of the garden that focus on sight, sound, smell, touch and relaxation. Volunteers will have the opportunity to create wind chimes, bird feeders, plant gardens, assemble furniture and interact with Easterseals clients.

Easterseals, a United Way-funded agency, serves children, young adults and frail elders with disabilities.

The Miami Bridge Enhancement Project

Join United Way of Miami-Dade in making Miami Bridge space more secure and appealing for youth, staff and families who benefit from this Emergency youth shelter. Volunteers will be planting and helping beautify a meditation pit and a volleyball court. Miami Bridge Community Base Service is known as First Stop For Families. This program is designed to provide services to help youth ages 6 – 17 years old and their families stay together and divert children from having to utilize emergency shelter services by providing short-term family crisis intervention services.

Baynanza 2019

Baynanza is a celebration of Biscayne Bay and its significance as one of our most important ecological systems in South Florida. While Baynanza includes more than 25 great events throughout March and April, the event that has become nearly synonymous with this celebration is the Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day.
